Wyss invited lecturer Takashi Kato from the University of Tokyo discusses recent approaches to the development of self-organized soft materials exhibiting dynamic functions and organic/inorganic hybrids. 

In this lecture, Andrew Woods from the University of Cambridge will describe a series of processes in the energy industry in which buoyancy driven flow of one fluid through a second fluid is key in sub-surface permeable rocks, in controlling the long term sequestration of carbon and above the earth's surface, in controlling oil blowouts and CO2 driven lake eruptions, and in controlling heat transfer through buoyancy driven flows in buildings.

Sue Reynolds of BD Biosciences and Ken Livak of Fluidigm Corporation will discuss how to uncover cellular heterogeneity using both surface marker and gene expression profiles of multiple single cells in one experiment, isolate rare single cells from a heterogeneous population, identify surface markers for each sorted cell and profile single cells for expression of hundreds of genes.
