The Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow position in the Biomimetic Microsystems Platform. The mission of the Wyss Institute is to discover the engineering principles that Nature uses to build living things, pursue the high-risk research that is fundamental to advance this effort and to harness these insights to create biologically inspired materials and devices to advance human health and improve the environment — thereby revolutionizing clinical medicine and creating a more sustainable world. We seek outstanding applicants for an interdisciplinary post-doctoral position in microfluidics and bioengineering, specifically for the development of Organs-on-Chips biomimetic microsystems.
Applicants are expected to hold a Ph.D. with an excellent track record of research in a field related to microtechnology or bioengineering and to have an interest in biological applications. The candidate should be open-minded, creative, energetic and bring strong expertise and experimental background in at least one of the fields of microfluidics, microfabrication, bioengineering or system engineering. Preference will be given to candidates with a proven ability to design and build novel microfluidic microsystems and employ them for cell biological applications. Basic knowledge of molecular cell biology (cell culture, basic molecular biology concepts and techniques) and microscopy techniques is also required. Background in cell biology or physiology would be a plus, but is not required.
The successful candidate is expected to develop and lead an interdisciplinary research project aimed at creating microengineered human organ-on-chip models to study normal physiology mimic disease and to explore their potential in drug-discovery applications.
Applications, assembled as single pdf files, should contain a C.V., a cover letter describing research interests and goals, a full list of publications and copies of up to three relevant scientific papers and names and contact information for at least three writers of letters of recommendation who might be contacted as references. Applications should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Harvard University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer and applications from women and minority candidates are strongly encouraged.
