The Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow position in the Systems Discovery platform. The mission of the Wyss Institute is to discover the engineering principles that Nature uses to build living things; to pursue the high-risk research that is fundamental to advance this effort; and to harness these insights to create biologically-inspired materials and devices to advance human health and improve the environment – thereby revolutionizing clinical medicine and creating a more sustainable world.
We seek outstanding postdoctoral applicants with expertise in computational systems biology and/or machine learning to join a vibrant team of researchers working on the development of clinically relevant models of influenza infection in human, leveraging the organ-on-chip technology developed at the Wyss Institute. During this project, this individual will be responsible for critical analyses of multi-omics data, while exploring the development of algorithms for identification of novel biomarkers and drug targets for influenza.
Applicants are expected to hold a Ph.D. in statistics, computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering, bioinformatics, computational biology, or related field of study, and have a proven record of high quality publications in the fields of systems biology, machine learning, or bioinformatics. Strong interest in contributing to multidisciplinary teams (engineers, biologists/physiologists, clinicians) is critical for this position. This individual will be proficient in the analyses of transcriptomics data (microarray, RNA-seq, single-cell seq), proteomics, and metabolomics data. A solid understanding of ordinary differential equation and flux balance modeling is a plus and expertise in MATLAB and/or R, Python or other scripting language is a must. Applications, assembled as single PDF files, should contain a complete resume, cover letter describing research interests and goals, full list of publications, copies of up to three relevant scientific papers, as well as the names and contact information of three references (expected to provide letters of recommendation). Applications should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org using the subject line “SYSTEMS DISCOVERY – INFLUENZA POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW APPLICATION.
Harvard University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer and applications from women and minority candidates are strongly encouraged.
