The Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow position in the Bioinspired Biomedical Microsystems platform. The mission of the Wyss Institute is to discover the engineering principles that Nature uses to build living things, pursue the high-risk research that is fundamental to advance this effort and to harness these insights to create biologically inspired materials and devices to advance human health and improve the environment — thereby revolutionizing clinical medicine and creating a more sustainable world. We seek outstanding applicants for an interdisciplinary postdoctoral position in biochemical sensing.
We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow to join our team to lead our efforts in engineering hydrogels and biodegradable polymers associated with engineering 3-dimensional cell-laden organs-on-chips and implantable tissues.
The group is investigating how cellular interactions with their surrounding local microenvironment regulate cellular structure, organization, proliferation, differentiation, and migration both in culture and in vivo. Using a repertoire of bioengineering approaches, we have developed novel methods to engineer vasculature both in vitro and in vivo. The group is seeking candidates to lead efforts in further developing our recently established materials systems and 3D organotypic models, and how to translate these findings into in vivo settings.
Candidates with expertise in synthetic polymer chemistry, especially in biomaterials for either in vitro or in vivo studies, and a strong interest in establishing crossover skills are encouraged. Substantial publication records in synthetic chemistry, biomaterials, and/or their use in biological studies are a plus.
How to apply: applications should be assembled as single pdf files. This application should contain a cover letter briefly describing candidate’s background and specific research interests, a full CV with a publication list, expected Ph.D. completion date, and the names and contact information for three references who might be contacted for recommendations.
Applications should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org using the subject line “TISSUE MICROFABRICATION APPLICATION.”
Harvard University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer and applications from women and minority candidates are strongly encouraged.
