Jim is a specialist in mechanics, biomechanics, and especially the cost-effective design/development of innovative products. His engineering degrees are from Johns Hopkins and MIT, with post-doc experience at Cornell, and a Professional Engineer license. His career over 40 years has included teaching/research, development and manufacturing at medium and large companies, and engineering consulting. His fundamental research has included vehicle dynamics, granular material packing, impact, and stresses in bonded or bolted joints. Jim is named inventor on seven patents, and is responsible for devising existing products in paper converting, food slicing, and exercise. He co-authored the MIT Press book BICYCLING SCIENCE 3e.
