Unlike traditional robots, informal robots are light, flexible and compliant. Processors, sensors and actuators are embedded within materials such as folded laminates, soft gels or woven fabric. Intelligence Ð both computational and material Ð emerges synergistically. Leading practitioners in this field will present their work in origami-style ambulatory & flying robots, actuated wearable devices to enhance mobility, and 3D-printed robots based on multi-functional voxels.
A moderated discussion follows, exploring how informal robotics presents opportunities within larger domains of computing, materials, and manufacturing. Afterwards, there will be a reception during which original informal robots will be demonstrated.
