Sungmin Nam received his B.S. in mechanical engineering from Seoul National University, and M.S. and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Stanford University. His PhD work was centered around the mechanical characterization of biomaterials, the study of mechanobiology, and the development of new biomaterial platforms, in an effort to understand the biological impacts of the material’s physical properties on disease progression (e.g. tumor growth) and regeneration processes (e.g. stem cell proliferation and differentiation). As a Wyss Technology Development Fellow, he is working on developing next-generation tissue adhesives with new functionalities that enable both monitoring of the wound regeneration process and active promotion of healing.
