Wyss Prizes

The Institute awards Wyss Prizes in each of its five Enabling Technology Platform areas on an annual basis, and invites the recipient to visit the Harvard campus to present their work to our community. Institute faculty and staff associated with each Platform activity may submit nominations for world-renowned scientists, engineers, designers or other scholars who they believe have made seminal contributions in these areas. Nominations can be submitted in the form of an email to: susan.kelley@wyss.harvard.edu

Adaptive Fritting installation.  Learn more

World-recognized designer, Chuck Hoberman, was awarded the Wyss Prize for Bioinspired Adaptive Architecture for his Adaptive Fritting installation (at right) that demonstrates a new glass panel technology for dynamic control of light transmission and thermal gain. The technology, which mimics the pigment vesicle redistribution mechanisms that living cells use to control pigmentation, was on display at the Harvard Graduate School of Design's Gund Hall in Spring, 2009.
