Hosted by Wyss Core Faculty David R. Walt, PhD, Diagnostics Grand Rounds brings clinicians with unmet needs to the Wyss Institute. The goal of these sessions is to inform technology developers about important clinical problems that can help them direct their technology development efforts. Presenters are asked to identify diagnostic needs that will have an impact on the quality of care they deliver.
The practice of medicine is affected by Obesity due to the provider’s attitudes as well as the patient’s. In addition, diagnosis and treatment in patients with obesity is affected by the failure of current tools and algorithms to effectively be used in patients with high BMI. In this lecture, Dr. Apovian evaluates attitudes and diagnostic tools and “attribution error” in the failure of appropriate treatment for patients with obesity as well as possible solutions to this problem.
