Michael Jewett is a Professor of Bioengineering at Stanford University. His research group focuses on advancing synthetic biology research to support planet and societal health, with applications in medicine, manufacturing, sustainability, and education. He has received numerous awards and honors, including the NIH Pathway to Independence Award, David and Lucile Packard Fellowship in Science and Engineering, Camille-Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award, and Finalist for the Blavatnik National Awards for Young Scientists, as well as several teaching awards. Jewett is an elected member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, and the National Academy of Inventors. He co-founded SwiftScale Biologics (acquired by National Resilience Inc.), Stemloop, Inc., Pearl Bio, and Synolo Therapeutics.
Dr. Jewett received his Ph.D. in 2005 at Stanford University and completed postdoctoral studies at the Center for Microbial Biotechnology in Denmark and the Harvard Medical School. He began his academic career at Northwestern University in 2009, where he was the Charles Deering McCormick Professor of Teaching Excellence, the Walter P. Murphy Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering, and Director of the Center for Synthetic Biology. In 2018, he was a guest professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich).
