Unanchored Nucleated Tensegrity Model

Jun 24, 2009 image

Original photograph of a stick-and-string tensegrity model containing a smaller tensegrity at its center that is connected to the surface by black elastic thread (not visible against black background), which Ingber used to present his cellular tensegrity theory.  This model is unanchored and therefore both the ‘cell’ and ‘nucleus’ take on round forms, much as observed in living cells.
