Wyss Institute Founding Director Donald E. Ingber, M.D., Ph.D., is offering insights into what we can learn from nature and introducing a diverse community to the Wyss Institute’s new model for technology innovation and collaboration at PopTech 2010, a boundary-defying symposium about creative change that takes place October 20-23.
The conference is the signature annual event of PopTech, a unique innovation network that brings together cutting-edge leaders, thinkers, and doers from multiple disciplines around the globe to explore the social impact of new technologies, the forces of change shaping our future, and new approaches to solving the world’s most significant challenges.
This year’s theme is Brilliant Accidents, Necessary Failures, and Improbable Breakthroughs. Ingber will be speaking on high risk research, serendipity and transformative change in a session entitled “Noise in the System.” He joins an illustrious line up of event speakers that includes Grammy award winner John Legend, Oscar nominated filmmaker Laura Poitras, and MoveOn founder Eli Pariser.
As the Founding Director of the Wyss Institute, Ingber is charged with pioneering the new field of biologically inspired engineering in which the design principles found in nature are applied to develop new materials and devices for healthcare, energy, manufacturing, robotics, and sustainable architecture. The new technologies are translated into commercial products and therapies through industrial collaborations, corporate alliances, and new startups.
