Cellular “Backpacks” to Fight Cancer, Autoimmune Disorders, and More
Macrophages are very malleable immune cells, but that also means that they can be influenced by cancerous tumors and inflammatory processes. Our cellular "backpacks" stick to macrophages and can deliver molecules that keep them in their desired state for cell therapy and more. -
Soft hydrogel electrodes for better, safer implants
Soft, conductive hydrogels match the physical properties of the human brain, enabling the creation of electrodes and implantable devices that can improve brain-machine interfaces while reducing the risk of injury. -
CogniXense for Rare Disease Drug Discovery
Unravel Biosciences has licensed a Wyss drug discovery platform technology to identify and create drugs to treat complex central nervous system disorders, starting with Rett syndrome. -
CircaVent: A Drug Discovery Platform for Mental Health Conditions
CircaVent is a novel drug discovery platform that combines predictive algorithms, high-throughput preclinical models, and human organoids to identify and test drugs that could treat mental health conditions like bipolar disorder. -
CogniXense: A Platform for Rapid Drug Repurposing
CogniXense is a target-agnostic drug discovery platform that enables the repurposing of drugs for rare genetic diseases in record time. By combining human data-based computational drug prediction with on-demand animal model development, we can mimic the diversity of symptoms of patient populations and begin drug screening on new diseases within a month. -
Soft Robotic Shoulder Support for Stroke Rehabilitation
The majority of stroke survivors have difficulty using their affected arm in everyday life. Commercial rehabilitation robots exist, but most are expensive, rigid, non-portable exoskeletons that can only be used in clinical rehabilitation settings. Portable devices could considerably increase the frequency and amount of robotic therapy, maximizing the recovery possible for patients with arm impairments....

Audio/PodcastBuying time: A medical breakthrough in stroke treatmentWhen a stroke strikes, every minute matters. Science has traditionally approached stroke as a race against time. But rather than racing faster, what if we could instead slow the damage down? Join host Shahni Wellington as she explores groundbreaking research aimed at buying more time for stroke patients, particularly those in rural and regional communities.... -
Video/AnimationCure ALD – Behind the Research | Alex LeNail – Safer Gene TherapyLearn about Wyss Postdoctoral Fellow Alex LeNail‘s background and how he plans to develop a safer gene therapy for ALD (adrenoleukodystrophy) patients. If successful, this could go to clinical trials and give families hope for a cure. This video series tells the story of the scientists behind the breakthroughs, and why community-driven fundraising is the... -
Audio/PodcastBrain Shuttles: A New Path Into the Brain with James Gorman of the Wyss InstituteThe host of Business Trip, Matias Serebrinsky, interviews Wyss Senior Director of Translational R&D James (Jim) Gorman, M.D., Ph.D. Jim is a Principal Investigator of the Wyss Institute Brain Targeting Program (BTP). He leads a team developing new approaches to transport drugs through the blood-brain barrier (BBB) into the central nervous system. In this episode,... -
Video/AnimationFinding a Balance In Bipolar Disorder Through Drug Prediction and Organoid-Based Drug ScreeningCircaVent is a high-throughput drug screening platform that combines predictive algorithms, preclinical models, and human brain organoids to efficiently identify and test drugs that could treat the underlying causes of bipolar disorder. CircaVent is initially focused on addressing the circadian rhythm disruptions that are a common hallmark of BD, and could dramatically speed up the... -
