Wyss Core Faculty member Jim Collins received Boston University’s 2012 Innovator of the Year award in honor of his work as an entrepreneurial scientist whose research has led to the creation of a company that seeks to benefit society. Collins, who is also a Boston University School of Engineering professor, is a cofounder of Sample6 Technologies, a startup that is developing a pathogen detection platform to identify harmful bacteria in food, healthcare, and other industries. Sample6’s goal is to produce the “smoke alarm” of pathogen detection.
