Ovarian torsion (OT) is a serious medical condition where an ovary twists around the tissue that supports it, which can cut off blood supply to the ovary and sometimes the fallopian tube, causing severe pain. If blood flow is not quickly restored, the ovary might need to be surgically removed. Current diagnostic methods are often imprecise and can lead to unnecessary surgeries and significant healthcare costs. By swiftly and accurately diagnosing ovarian torsion, we can save countless women from unnecessary surgeries and reduce healthcare costs by billions of dollars. As a solution, our team is using advanced proteomics to identify potential biomarkers indicative of OT, ensuring early action and improved patient outcomes.
